Soliciting Nominations for the next CIG Director

Computational Infrastructure for Geodynamics (CIG) is an NSF-funded community-driven organization for advancing Earth science by providing the infrastructure for the development and dissemination of software for geophysics and related fields. CIG membership includes 90 institutions worldwide with participation from 6 continents. CIG promotes open source software communities and provides leadership in software best practices. We aspire to be the nexus for the geodynamics community through communication and outreach.

Currently, CIG is in its 4th 5-year funding cycle, which will end on January 31, 2028. Thus, to ensure CIG remains an integral resource for the geodynamics community, we anticipate beginning the grant-writing process within the next 6–8 months. This process will require developing a vision for scientific software development, support & training, community engagement, and the acquisition of funding. To ensure that the future director is fully involved in this visioning process, we are soliciting nominations for individuals or small teams who would be well-positioned to lead CIG into the future.

Nominations should provide a brief description of how CIG might evolve in the future and the strength of the nominee(s) in fulfilling this vision. A short 2-page CV and publication list are also requested. Please send nominations to Lorraine Hwang (ljhwang@ucdavis.edu) by July 15, 2026. Self-nominations are encouraged.
