Workshop "Mathematics for Planet Earth"

Dear colleagues,
we are pleased to announce the workshop “Mathematics for Planet Earth 2024” (M4E), which will be held on November 11 and 12, 2024, at the Politecnico di Milano, as part of the “Department of Excellence” activities of the Department of Mathematics.

This workshop aims to highlight the importance of Mathematics in understanding the dynamics of various aspects of our planet and in addressing the challenges that our planet will face.

We are honored to present 6 distinguished speakers:

  • Denis Allard, BioSP, INRAE, France Building and simulating complex geostatistical models for climate and environmental sciences
-Inga Berre, University of Bergen, Norway Modeling of heat transfer, multiphase flow, and deformation in fractured geothermal systems
-Didier Cloteau, University of Paris-Saclay, Centrale Supelec, France Mathematical and computational challenges in Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment.
-Bernd Flemisch, University of Stuttgart, Germany Geological Carbon Storage: Computational Models and their Validation
-Taras Gerya, ETH, Switzerland Biogeodynamics: influence of plate tectonics on life evolution and habitability
-Cecilia Stanghellini, Wageningen University, Netherlands From external climate to climate within a greenhouse: utility and complexity of models

The workshop is also open to contributions from young researchers through posters. Poster registration is open until September 15, 2024.
