Virtual user meeting retrospective and regular meeting announcements

Hi all,

This is a quick retrospective on our first virtual user meeting last week. First of all thank you all for participating, it was great to see such an interest and commitment to our community. We had 35 participants in total, with participation during any particular time ranging from 8 to 25, which is very comparable to our usual hackathon participation. As planned a mix of presentations, Q&A and discussions allowed to learn more about ASPECT’s features, recent developments, and our community members, and we even got some coding work done. Our log document, the feedback slides, and the presentations will be available for another week or so under the following link: http://bit.ly/aspect-user-meeting-materials. Considering the very positive feedback we received from you, we will certainly plan for repeating this type of event in the future, possibly with some minor modifications.
A big shout-out to our presenters, who gave excellent presentations and were not afraid of bringing their scientific and development work to a new presentation format!

After the meeting a group of developers was interested in continuing this format in a less organized way by scheduling biweekly meetings of 1 hour to talk about any ASPECT related topics. These meeting will not have a set agenda and are purely to discuss whatever ASPECT related topic is of interest to the participants. The meetings are open to anyone interested in the development and application of ASPECT. We will start these calls tomorrow at 10 am Pacific time, but will continue every two weeks afterwards. Thanks everyone for the participation and the great feedback!
Best,

Hi all,
thanks for putting the slides and talks online, that was very helpful. I was wondering if that could be a useful addition to the manual, as I very much liked the format and the explanation of the why and how for the specific features presented. So I thought, this or similar could be a good start for other new users later on as well. What do you think?
Cheers,
Esther

Hi Esther, sorry for the late reply. We are always happy about any addition to the manual. But what specifically would you like to see transferred to the manual? The individual science presentations will likely go into separate publications (we maintain a list of all publications on aspect.geodynamics.org). Which of the other topics would you like to see in the manual?

Best,
Rene
