Ph.D. position in Geodynamics at the University of Miami (Fall 2022)

Hello all,

We are recruiting for a Ph.D. student to join the Geodynamics group at the University of Miami (Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences) beginning Fall 2022. The project will use start-of-the-art numerical subduction models to investigate the dynamics of Western Pacific subduction zones. Global ASPECT models - tailored to various geological and geophysical observables - will be used to constrain the style of mantle flow in and around Western Pacific slabs, and also how these slabs are affected by global-scale mantle circulation (and vice versa).

Application: Students with backgrounds in a quantitative discipline (geoscience, physics, engineering, etc.), a strong academic record, and some prior Geophysics/Geodynamics research experience are encouraged to apply. If interested, please reach out to the Geodynamics group head, Dr. Adam Holt (aholt@miami.edu), with a short CV and brief statement of interest by May 15th.

The Rosenstiel School: The Department of Marine Geosciences (MGS) is located within the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science at the University of Miami. MGS is home to faculty with a wide range of research focuses (Geodesy, Seismology, Geology, Geochemistry) and is located on the picturesque Rosenstiel School campus (Virginia Key, Miami). The Ph.D. assistantship provides 5 years of full support: Salary, tuition, and health insurance.

Cheers,
Adam
