I am struggling to restart models that use the coarsening and refinement fraction parameters for mesh refinement (ASPECT 2.4-pre). I am trying to: 1) run a model with adaptive mesh refinement utilizing coarsening and refining, 2) checkpoint the model upon termination (end time), and 3) restart the model to run to some new end time. Attached are the error message produced by restarting the model as well as the parameter file I was using.

I don’t think I’ve seen this error before. But rather than try and reproduce this with a version of deal.II that is ~3 years old, would you mind trying whether you get the same error if you install the latest deal.II release (9.5) and the correspondingly latest ASPECT version? Much code has changed in these 3 years, and who knows whether the same problem still exists or has already been fixed.
