I’m not sure I fully understand the question/issue and what specifically you would like to accomplish in your model.
There are a number of ways to specify initial variations in temperature and material properties within a model, either via a function, ascii data file, plugin, or the geodynamic world builder. For example, the continental extension cookbook uses functions to specify spatial variations in both the initial temperature and composition.
Can you provide a bit more detail regarding what you would like to implement and what barriers you are encountering?
