Post-doc opportunities in waveform inversion for biomedical imaging applications

The Computational Imaging Science Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking a computational scientist to work on a variety of large-scale, numerical inverse problems related to waveform inversion and wave-based imaging. The position involves the development of mathematical methods for image reconstruction and the implementation of those methods using high-performance, parallelized GPU platforms. Specific imaging modalities include photoacoustic tomography, ultrasound tomography, and x-ray phase- contrast imaging. Certain projects also involve the development of machine learning methods for improving image reconstruction and image interpretation.

A strong applicant will be proficient in the following:

  • scientific programming in C/C++/CUDA, Python
  • numerical optimization methods
  • inverse problems
  • wave physics/computational geophysics

The ideal applicant will also have experience in image reconstruction, a strong background in linear algebra and/or discrete mathematics as well as a demonstrated record of scientific achievement. Both post-doctoral and Staff Scientist-level positions are available. For more information, please contact:
