T045 - Seismic Imaging and Geodynamical Modeling of Lithosphere and Mantle
Continents such as Eurasia and North America are well instrumented with large-aperture and relatively homogeneous seismic arrays. These continental-scale broadband seismic arrays (e.g., USArray, CEArray, and AlpArray) have provided unprecedented data sets for refining 3-D models of seismic properties in the Earth, and in particular mapping the details of lithosphere and mantle. These refined 3-D seismic images help advance the understanding of the evolution of continental lithosphere, subducted oceanic lithosphere, and mantle upwellings, providing constraints for geodynamic models and insights into the storage and transport of volatiles and melts. The purpose of this session is to highlight new findings in these improved seismic images and new geodynamic models that incorporate constraints from seismic imaging results, with the goal of discussing their implications for plate tectonics and mantle processes. We welcome contributions focused on seismic imaging and/or geodynamical modeling of lithosphere and mantle and their implications.
