A Postdoc Position in Rock Physics and Planetary Dynamics is open at Northwestern University, Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences
The successful candidate will join a research group investigating the physical processes that govern evolution of terrestrial planets, ranging from the atomic scale physics of mineral grains to the planetary scale of mantle flow. The broader goal of this postdoc position is to use theoretical and/or numerical methods to incorporate the recent advances in the fields of (1) mineral physics and (2) rock deformation into larger scale geodynamic models. We seek to better understand processes that include, but are not limited to, (3) mantle convection, (4) plate tectonics, (5) earthquake cycles, and (6) postglacial rebound. Applicants’ primary expertise should cover one or more of the aforementioned areas (1-5). Research may be focused on our home planet Earth, but applications to other terrestrial planets in our Solar system and beyond are welcome as well. This is a one-year position conditional on a two-year term.
