Multiple PhD positions available related to last interglacial sea level, climate, and ice sheets

Hi everyone,

We’re excited to announce several PhD positions related to the newly funded NSF project HISEAS: ‘How much and why did Ice Sheets melt during the Last Interglacial’. The project combines paleoclimate reconstruction, ice sheet modeling, and sea level analyses to understand conditions during the last interglacial (LIG) time period. We’re looking forward to recruiting a motivated and diverse cohort of early career scientists to tackle this problem with us. The specific positions that focus on modeling are:

  1. PhD position at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks with Andy Aschwanden (aaschwanden@alaska.edu) on ice sheet and Earth system modeling for the LIG.
  2. PhD position at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University with Jacky Austermann (jackya@ldeo.columbia.edu) on modeling sea level and glacial isostatic adjustment for the LIG.
  3. PhD or postdoc position at the University of Victoria, Canada, with Blake Dyer (blakedyer@uvic.ca) on sedimentology and statistical modeling.

Interested candidates are encouraged to reach out to potential advisors for more information on each position. PhD applications will have to be submitted through each university’s graduate school admissions process (with a range of deadlines that begin early December 2024).

Best,
Jacky
