Boundary compositon box model

Dear all,

I would like to run a 3D box model with composition values set to 0 for all boundaries. But in the boundary composition model/box subsection, it seems I can only prescribe values for top, bottom, left, right boundaries — but not front and back. I believe prescribing values on all six boundaries may have been possible in some earlier ASPECT versions. Is there an alternative way to achieve this in the latest version (3.1.0-pre)?

In fact, I do not really need any compostions. The material model I am using is Steinberger model which is only depth and temperature dependent. The other subsections seem also not dependent on compositions. So would it be possible to comment out the initial compostion, boundary composition and compositional fields subsections?

Thank you very much in advance for your help and time.

@yingyil06 At least in principle, it should of course be possible to also prescribe boundary values on the front and back faces. What happens if you try? Do you get an error message? If so, what does it say?

Hi Wolfgang,

Thank you very much for your reply!

I think I figured out what happened — I accidentally used DOS format instead of Unix format for the prm file, which caused many error messages that shouldn’t have been there. Once I converted the file to Unix format, everything worked as expected, including setting boundary compositions.

Thanks again for your help!

@yingyil06 Great, glad to hear that you figured it out!
