Join the community of research software developers on **Wednesday, November 18** , 11:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. PT to discuss software best practices. This workshop is an opportunity for developers to exchange information on recent code development efforts, implementation of new tools, libraries, and algorithms as well as common challenges and needs in development and training. Congratulations to the **ASPECT** community for winning this year’s **[Helmholtz Software Sustainability Prize](https://os.helmholtz.de/en/open-research-software/helmholtz-software-award/#c134712).** This prize is awarded for software that is sustainable in the sense of software engineering according to the FAIR principles and for extensive support and participation of the scientific community. The FAIR4RS principles ensure that scientific software and its reference data can be efficiently used, cited, and maintained.

Established over a decade ago to simulate convection and tectonic processes in Earth and other planetary bodies, [ASPECT](https://geodynamics.org/resources/aspect) has grown into a tool for many geodynamic applications, including applications for inner core convection, lithospheric scale deformation, two-phase flow, and numerical methods development. ASPECT is supported by an international team of **Principal Developers** : Wolfgang Bangerth (Colorado State University, USA), Juliane Dannberg (GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research, Germany), Daniel Douglas (Boston College, USA), Menno Fraters (University of Graz, Austria), Rene Gassmoeller (GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research, Germany), Anne Glerum (GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences, Germany), Timo Heister (Clemson University, USA), Bob Myhill (University of Bristol, UK), John Naliboff (New Mexico Tech, USA), Arushi Saxena (University of California, Davis, USA), and Cedric Thieulot (Utrecht University, The Netherlands), and its even larger community of code **Contributors**.
